Wood characteristics: Pinkish brown heartwood color with reddish brown veins. Clear yellowish white sapwood color. Medium to coarse grain. Straight thread. Durable and rot-proof wood. Often gnarled logs.
Mechanical properties: Very good resistance to compression. Classified as moderately stable, it may exhibit slightly lower shrinkage than Douglas and Spruce. Cracks very regularly.
Technological properties: Rather slow drying. Normal machining, bonding can be complicated by the resin. Can split when nailing. Finishes ok.
