Wood characteristics: Heartwood color pinkish brown to see reddish, more prominent than that of other pines. Yellowish sapwood color. Tender, light to medium-heavy. Relatively nervous. Fairly durable heartwood. Straight wire . Fine to medium grain depending on the speed of growth.
Mechanical properties: Strong mechanical resistance in compression, bending and impact. Resilient, fairly fissile, little transversely adherent.
Technological properties: Sawing can present some difficulties because of the presence of very hard knots and pockets of resins which clog the blades. Machining operations are carried out easily. Nails and screws well, sticks very well. Rather slow drying. Before finishing, we can practice a flame treatment of the wood followed by sanding.
