Mistletoe, whose seeds are dispersed by birds, is an epiphytic parasitic plant: it synthesizes chlorophyll itself through its leaves, but takes sap from the host tree. Rootless, it takes on the appearance of a large ball over the years.
Since the time of the Druids, mistletoe has been considered a sacred plant. Long used to cure certain illnesses, it is now a symbol of prosperity. To celebrate the new year; it is then customary to hang a bouquet and kiss underneath.
