Wood characteristics: Pinkish brown heartwood color. Yellowish sapwood color. Straight thread. Medium grain. Resistant and durable wood, Hard core.
Mechanical properties: The yellow-colored wood (from the coasts) has higher mechanical resistance than the red-colored wood (from the mountains). Resists well in compression, very well in traction and flexion. Fairly fissile, not very adherent, rather stiff, quite resilient if growths between 2 and 4 mm.
Technological properties: Wood easy to work. Rather slow drying. The presence of large knots can make sawing difficult. The very heterogeneous wood has a wavy surface during planing. Nail and screw well but before holes recommended. Sticks well. The finish is not always impeccable because the possible presence of resin.
