Wood characteristics: Heartwood color white brown to dark brown. Light brown, thin sapwood color. Dense and heavy wood. Straight and regular thread. Coarse grain. Heterogeneous structure. Very durable heartwood but the sapwood needs to be treated.
Mechanical properties: Excellent mechanical resistance. Resists well in compression, very well in flexion and is quite resilient. Adherent, little fissile in the tangential direction, and weak cohesion in the radial direction.
Technological properties: Slow and very delicate drying because there is a risk of cracks and collapses. Sawing without difficulty. Good bonding skills. Sensitive to the risk of iron corrosion.
