Wood characteristics: Orange brown to reddish brown or purple wood. Often marked with small black dots. Very distinct sapwood. More or less regular thread, many knots. Very hard, rot-proof and durable. 

Mechanical properties: Low shrinkage. Good stability, works little.

Comment: Increasingly rare, these trees are protected as priority habitat in Europe.
