In the heart of the forest of Fontainebleau, Julien Colboc carves wood. Trained at the School of Decorative Arts in Paris and more recently in carpentry and cabinetmaking, he describes himself as a “wood enhancer”. Shaping monumental sculptures or smaller pieces, Julien likes to keep certain traditional techniques in his practice, mixed with more modern tools. Through this approach, he manages to feel closer to the material. He is also perfecting his skills in working with green wood, a wood whose tree has just been felled and whose moisture content is still very high, easier to shape with manual tools.
