Wood worm Soft Baroque

This series of pieces named Wood Worm was designed by Soft Baroque, a London design studio. Wishing to blur the boundaries between “acceptable” types of furniture and representative conceptual objects, they create quite unique pieces.

The Wood Worm series was constructed from lines derived from Photoshop's "hard round" brush tool. The worms are converted from a digital sketch into a walnut object, connected by hidden joinery. Through this series, they make particular reference to the awkward desirability of producing digital images in contrast to the artisanal movements of the 20th century. An ambiguous language between the growing dominance of computer-generated aesthetics and our enduring values.

The Wood Worm bench and shelf were commissioned by New York gallery Patrick Parrish for the Design Miami fair.
