Chromatic Variations Spring 2025 selection

Published 23 / 04 / 2025

Wood stands out with an infinite palette of shades, shaped by its environment : the soil that nourished it, the climate that influenced it, and the passage of time that left its mark. While wood color is a fundamental criterion for identifying and classifying different species, it also reveals variations within a single species. The sapwood - the tree’s softer outer layer - often appears light and luminous, in striking contrast with the heartwood - the darker, denser core - that bears witness to the tree’s aging process.

This chromatic diversity has always fascinated me, and it is what inspired this new selection. I chose to explore the nuances of wood color through a timeless and singular object : the bowl. A daily reminder of the cycles of the seasons, the fruit bowl evokes the ancestral act of gathering and celebrates the unique bond between humans and nature.

This selection features 11 unique pieces, handcrafted by five artisans. Each brings their own approach, but one technique unites them : woodturning. Through every bowl, the color of the wood is revealed in all its richness and subtlety. Delicate white maple contrasts with the golden, vibrant tones of oak. The warm red hues of bubinga stand in stark opposition to the deep, dark wenge. Every species offers a unique sensory experience : grain patterns that are sometimes regular, sometimes wild; organic knots; smooth, even hues or, conversely, surprising marbled effects.

Beyond their aesthetic appeal, these pieces tell the story of the trees they came from. They embody the passage of time and the artisans’ skill and craftsmanship. Through this collection, I invite you to rediscover the rich chromatic diversity of wood and to find the piece that will resonate most deeply with your home. Available online starting April 24th.
