The Genno is the standard hammer in Japanese woodworking, made by a blacksmith. Its round head is forged in its raw state, leaving visible traces of the work on the steel.
Its two faces are its defining characteristic: one flat for striking a chisel or driving a nail near an edge, the other slightly convex for finishing without marking the surrounding wood. This distinctive shape, which the Japanese call dog's headIt also allows for the correction of a blade that has just come out of hardening.
