The Kensaki is a marking knife used in Japanese woodworking. Its thin, beveled blade cuts wood with extreme precision, leaving a clean line that guides the saw or chisel. It can also be used as a paring chisel for final adjustments.
Hand-forged by Yoshihide Sakamitsu in the city of Sanjō (one of the major centers of Japanese blacksmithing) from double-layered, high-carbon #2 white steel. Hammered finish Tsuchime is remarkable, each facet of the blade bearing the mark of the blacksmith.
