Chaouki Choukini – Corpus

Since the late 1960s, the Franco-Lebanese sculptor Chaouki Choukini has been developing an aesthetic world that stands out for its singularity and coherence. His sculptural works, mainly in wood, combine horizontal landscapes and vertical, anthropomorphic, almost totemic figures.
At first glance, the works may seem somewhat primitivist. On closer inspection, however, one discovers a sophisticated research into organic and mechanical worlds, where the curved mounds are punctuated by a regiment of stakes or undulating bases, bristling with saw teeth.
This retrospective monograph offers a large collection of reproductions of works, accompanied by a long essay by Kevin Jones and a series of poems by Salah Stétié.
