Ebonization Savoir-faire

Published 05 / 10 / 2022

Ebonization is obtained by a chemical reaction between iron acetate and the natural tannins of the wood. Substances naturally secreted by trees, tannins are present in varying proportions depending on the species. The more tannic the wood, the more pronounced the ebonization. By applying a mixture of iron and acetic acid (like vinegar) to the wood, a black tint will gradually appear to become intense. This know-how was used in particular for the creation of our trivet EBO.
