Desmond Corcoran
Desmond grew up in Dublin, Ireland. It was during his secondary studies that his interest in woodworking was revealed to him. At 20, he moved to New York and joined 3rd Ward, an artist collective in the Brooklyn neighborhood, through which he took evening classes in carpentry, woodcarving and finishing techniques. In early 2012, Desmond left New York for the city of Burlington, in the state of Vermont, and joined the Vermont Woodworking School. where he took courses in cabinetmaking and woodturning. There, his mastery of the profession is confirmed.
Then Desmond and his French partner, Hélène, decide to settle in Brittany. He built his workshop there and created bowls, cutting boards, boxes and small furniture. His creations reveal clean and simple lines, fashioned from species of wood rigorously selected in local sawmills. His creations, now acclaimed by great chefs and palaces, testify to a certain sense of perfection.
