Courthouse Koizumi Sekkei

Court House is the work of Koizumi Sekkei, an architecture and industrial design studio based in Japan.

For this individual housing project, the architects wanted to create a new relationship between indoor basketball and living rooms. The peculiarity of this house, which makes it so original, comes from its plans which were inspired by classic gymnasium plans. A basketball court was then placed in the center of the house, and all the living rooms are located on the side parts of the court.

The basketball court is 1/4 the size of a classic basketball court, incorporating 3 meters of basketball height and 50 meters of ceiling height, perfect for practice free throws. Built on 6 floors, this house does not only have a basketball court as its main room, which would reduce its possibilities of use. The inhabitants then have the possibility of transforming it into a library, a reception hall or other according to their needs.

Wood represents a major place in the constitution of this central atrium, whether on the floor or on the floors, and are contrasted thanks to species with strong and different tones. In the event that balloons should escape, all the side parts are protected by sliding metal doors and grids. A mesh door can thus be pulled in order to protect this area from ball shots, or on the contrary can be opened to increase the space of the court.

WE love

The wood of course, which allowed the originality of the project, as well as the atmosphere and the rectangular perspective of the whole.
