Jumphol Socharoentham and Pakawat Vijaykadga are two students in the furniture design department at King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang in Thailand.

Their end-of-study project, entitled Alato, is to design the future collection of an international furniture brand. This sideboard was then inspired by the universe of Casamania, whose trademark is Italian know-how.
Both interested in woodworking and craftsmanship, they decide to choose wood as the main element of their project, the characteristics of which will guide the shapes and shades.

The creation of the buffet begins with the structure and the legs. The structure, made by assembling small pieces of MDT sections, is protected by an industrial lacquer spray. Each foot is crafted from metal, covered with a powder coating. Careful work is then applied to the central element of the sideboard: the doors. Made from essence of ash wood, each door is composed of a solid ash structure, and ash wood veneer. This wood is indeed an asset in this furniture because, thanks to its light shades, it allows to highlight the gradient of colors.

To achieve this visual result, they then sprayed an acrylic lacquer on the wood veneer with different levels of color, from translucent to transparent to bring out the grain of the wood. The continuous, regular pattern was then cut from the veneer and woven onto the finished doors. The hinges have also been hidden thanks to the two doors, allowing for a truly qualitative finish.

WE love

The use of ash, the grain of which lends itself well to the project.
