About Us
Founder of OROS, Laure Amoros has been shaping since 2015 a label rooted in her deep connection to wood - a material both essential and universal. Raised in a family where craftsmanship and nature were ever-present, Laure developed a unique aesthetic and ecological awareness from an early age.
“For my parents, craftsmanship was always a very rational response to a need: if a stool was missing, they’d make a stool. Cups, kitchen utensils, storage solutions… Their complementary practices of woodworking and ceramics allowed them to create their own domestic language in a very empirical and direct way. That definitely shaped my love for simple, everyday objects.”
For the past ten years, with a spirit of openness and generosity, Laure has brought together a community of enthusiasts around wood - from seasoned artisans to designers and curious newcomers. This journey naturally led her back to her father Roger’s workshop, where she continues to benefit from his invaluable guidance.
Documenting, transmitting, promoting, and raising awareness around woodworking skills and related resources - these are the driving forces behind the OROS project, and they remain at the heart of its mission today. Guided by the concept of territory, Laure explores the connection between local wood species and the diverse techniques they inspire. Turning, bending, carving, and joinery bring out the beauty of both common and rare woods, always with a conscious, respectful approach to natural resources.
" In the Béziers region where I grew up, the landscape is shaped by Mediterranean species. My father turns wood he finds nearby, from fallen or pruned trees, or gifted by friends. Deeply rooted in this land, he favors local species like boxwood and olive, which he mainly turns into objects. OROS is a way to naturally celebrate wood in all its diversity, durability, and timelessness. "
EDITION – COLLECTION – SELECTION are the three guiding pillars that shape OROS’s creative path. Together, they form a dynamic vision for supporting the wood industry and its players in a ethical and sustainable way :
EDITION : Limited editions of furniture, designed and produced in collaboration with designers and artisan-makers.
COLLECTION : Everyday objects developed by OROS to bring wood into the heart of the home.
SELECTION : Unique pieces by artisans curated twice a year around a specific theme.
OROS also includes a dedicated STUDIO branch for bespoke projects that range from publishing to perfumery. One recent example is a collaboration with multidisciplinary media brand Monocle to develop a traditionally jointed oak candleholder, crafted by artisan Alfred Rambaud and available in Monocle cafés and shops worldwide.
Primarily based in France and Europe, OROS is also open to broader exploration - notably through a curated online selection of books covering topics such as dendrology, wooden architecture, and Japanese techniques. This multidisciplinary approach is driven by a spirit of expertise and curation.
From construction to objects, OROS draws inspiration from everything that interacts with the living world, feeding its creative vitality with iconic references such as César Manrique, Carlo Scarpa, James Turrell, and Donald Judd : an ever-growing curiosity.
